WELLNESS PROMOTION

  • Provide Heart Smart screenings, a comprehensive cardiovascular health risk analysis based on lifestyle, blood pressure and fasting blood glucose screening, lipid profile, BMI, 12-lead EKG, and vascular disease screening using Carotid Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) testing.

  • ​​Provide an overview of findings and implementation of wellness planning as part of a Lifestyle Enhancement Visit at the Women’s Heart Center in Midtown Detroit. This visit includes a “Bod Pod” evaluation, treadmill stress test for fitness assessment, and nutrition counseling.

  • Provide worksite and community biometric screening.

  • Provide worksite and community flu vaccinations.

  • Health Information resource for the "Ask the Nurse" desk at community and corporate health fairs.

  • Provide health and wellness presentations at community and corporate events.

  • Provide face-to-face, one-on-one health coaching at work sites, as part of their Employee Wellness Program.

  • Introduced successful strategies to help overcome barriers to healthy lifestyles through health education.

  • Successfully planned, developed and implemented “wellness week” - a week long health fair designed to educate encourage, and inspire employees to embrace healthier lifestyles.

  • Successfully Worked with IT and HR management to develop an employee wellness portal.

  • Worked with an interdisciplinary team to acquire a new cafeteria vendor that focused on healthier food choices.

  • Performed computerized “MICRIFIT” fitness testing on students and community members (e.g., blood pressure readings, heart rate analysis, cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility measures, body fat, lung capacity, and nutrition advice).

  • Researched relevant topics in health promotion and disease prevention.

  • Organized monthly wellness information seminars. 

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

HEALTH POLICY

  • Successfully planned, developed, and implemented an Employee Wellness Program.

  • Collaborated with a team to introduce Walkingspree (a corporate wellness provider) and implement a company-wide pedometer program – 66% of employees (4,620) joined Walkingspree within one month of implementation.

  • Implemented online health education programs for employees – 1450 employees earned a $50 wellness reward for completing 3 behavior change/wellness reward courses.

  • Organized, coordinated, and managed flu shot clinics, blood drives, and weight watchers programs.

  • Introduced Door-to-Door Organics, a local organic food delivery service, to the company and coordinated the successful delivery of fresh produce to our Head Office in Detroit, as well as branches in Ann Arbor and Lansing.

  • Re-introduced two group fitness classes to the continuing education program. 

  • Rewrote the policies and procedures for workers compensation, emphasizing the roles of the third party advisor, wellness coordinators, security, environmental health and safety, and clinics.

  • Worked with Security and Employee Labor Relations to develop procedures for alcohol/substance abuse, medical accommodations, emergency procedures, and special parking accommodations. 

     

 

CLINICAL CARE

  • Used the principals of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation to deliver quality care to cardiac and stroke patients.

  • Coordinated with interdisciplinary teams to plan, direct and manage, patient care.

  • Inter shift handoff reporting using: Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendations.

  • Educated patients and their family members on health care needs and the significance of lifestyle changes on physiological functioning.

  • Worked extensively with post cardiac and stroke patients, clients with hypertension, diabetes, and osteoporosis to develop and maintain rehabilitation schedules.

  • Cardiac rehabilitation 

LEADERSHIP

 

  • Managed the day-to-day operations of the Physical Education Building; this included membership sales, room rentals, staffing, customer service, and community activities.

  • Group Fitness Coordinator; lead and managed a team of 35 group fitness instructors.

  • Mentor for nursing students.

  • Nurse preceptor.
